At age 10, while playing ‘catch’, she hit her forehead into the doorknob as her brother was closing the door, and got a deep gash.
At age 13, she was running around (with her brother again). This time, she crashed right through the glass sliding door and ended up with more than forty stitches on her leg and arms.
At 18, she was struck down for three months with a stomach flu during the exam season.
She was labelled as “accident-prone” and unable to make “sensible decisions” in life.
Years later, she decided she should not be listening other people’s opinion and to give herself and studies another shot.
When life throws you lemons, how do you make that lemonade? Here are some brief thoughts:
Find friends who help make you a better person and vice versa.
Look out for people who are positive role models and learn from the values they hold towards life.
Give yourself a chance! Take small steps towards better growth.
AM has since completed her BA in Communications & Media Mgmt (Merit), Sp. Dip in Human Services (Gold), Graduate Dip in Social Work & Graduate Dip in Solution Focused Brief Therapy & Master of Social Science in Professional Counselling.
She has worked with youths and young adults since 1989, is a Certified Solution Focused Therapist.
Our past can affect us but that alone does not determine who we will become.
